Great product

I am on my second smoker box and use it frequently in the summer. Not sure if it makes a difference but instead of wood chips I use the grilling pellets - they work great and smell amazing.

cool product

first time smoking on the grill, i soaked some mesquite wood chips and filled it a third full and it takes a while especially if you just have a normal propane grill you need to place it on the hottest spot on high for at least 15 mins before you will see any smoke

A pain to use

I was not impressed with this product. Aside from being super fussy about the fit and getting it ready for grilling, it was a pain to remove the contents and clean it afterwards.

Smoker Box Works Well if High Heat

I discovered after trying to use this smoker box on a gas grill you have to have the heat fairly high for the smoker box to produce enough smoke to flavour meat or fish. Wood chips do need to be soaked for at least 30 minutes but I soak them for an hour.

Too many holes!

The Master Chef Smoker box that I purchased yesterday does not look like the picture above. Too many holes on top and corners are not solid or continuous. A good smoker box (check out the not so Canadian big box building store's offering which does look like the picture above) has fewer holes to limit the oxygen flow, allowing it to smolder and provide steady smoke for over an hour, instead of bursting into flames and lasting 5 minutes. Don't bother

Q: can this product be used on a gas grill by simply placing it on top of the grill?

A: On top of the grills will work but for really good amounts of smoke place under the grill as close to the flames as possible. Soak the chips - if you don't you'll get 3 minutes of smoke and then nice flames!
