Don't buy this!

As noted by others, this thermometer is completely unreliable. It has a bizarre 'Hold' function that serves no apparent purpose but to mess up the temp reading.
When I turn on a thermometer and stick it in the meat, I want it to show the temp; that's it. Instead it displays whatever temp it's on "Hold" for, which, again, has no use or meaning I can figure out.
This is a bad product.

Bad product

Working fine for a year until I pulled it out of some food and the cover came off the sensor and could not be put back on. Do not recommend

Le pire thermomètre numérique que j'ai eu. Après quelques mois il a eu un bug et j'ai dû le changer. J'ai bien essayé de l'ouvrir pour déconnecter la batterie (le bug aurait probablement été résolu), mais j'ai été incapable de l'ouvrir. J'ai essayé d'ouvrir la batterie avec le nouveau mais encore incapable de l'ouvrir. Je regrette d'avoir acheté ce produit !

Q: How do you remove the battery??

A: On the back of the thermometer is a round thing with a slot in it. If you look closely you will see two tiny padlocks, one open one closed. I put a coin in the slot and turned the round thing to the unlocked padlock image and used a knife to pop out the round thing and the gasket that holds the battery in place. After replacing the battery use the coin to turn the cover back to the locked position. Sometimes if it doesn't work I press both buttons on the front and then bang the thermometer a few times to get it going again. I don't think the battery always needs replacing. Otherwise its a great kitchen tool.

A: This thermometer cannot be calibrated. If you suspect the temperature is incorrect, try putting fresh batteries into the thermometer. You can always check the accuracy using ice water slurry: 1. Fill a cup with ice 2. Add water to cup 3. Slowly stir the ice slurry with the probe (keep probe away from the sides and bottom of the cup for better accuracy) 4. thermometer should read 32F (0C)
