Hi Doug, MASTER Chef and all induction cooktops require ferrous (iron-based) cookware. The most commonly used options are cast iron and stainless steel. Since induction cooking is highly efficient, investing in a stainless-steel frying pan and pot is a great choice. They don’t need to be high-end—more affordable options work just as well and it will be well worth it. CustomerCare

I have used this cooktop daily for the last 6 months and it has been very reliable and very quick to cook food. It seems well made and well designed. The only slight problem has been the need (from advice in the instructions) to unplug it after use. This was easily solved with a switched powerbar, such as item #052-7249-4.

Q: Is There a Way to Shut It Completely Off Without Unplugging? The On/Off switch doesn't seem to work like an On/Off Switch. Switching off still leaves the On switch lit with dashes in the information bar. You turn it off (completely) by unplugging? The manual is unclear about this. Did I get a defective unit?

A: When I press my power button, all of the lights turn off except for the power light, which blinks (indicating it’s still plugged in). My fan will typically keep running until the unit has cooled down though, even if the rest of it has turned off.

Q: I hear you can only use magnetic cookware on the induction cook top. Can the non magnetic cookware be made magnetic by attaching some way a magnetic base to the non magnetic cookware. i think i read somewhere one can.

A: Master Chef's portable induction cooktop works with a pressure canner. The canner must be flat based, ferrous metal (stainless steel, iron), and the pot diameter no larger than specified in your instruction booklet.

A: They can be used with regular pots and pans provided the bottoms are magnetized. You can test your pots and pans very easily with a magnet. If it sticks you are good to go. It seems most newer pots are ok.
