It's a guide, and it does what it is supposed too.

First it does not say empty, it says "low" so when the needle is in the red, you still have propane left, but you might want to think about filling your tank soon so you don't run out when you have the family over for the big bbq. The fact that it only works with their tanks is nothing new. Apple and Android don't play nice together why should these guys build a gauge that works with other poeples tanks. This works great with their tanks. It is really neat how it simply clips on and shows you the level even when the tank is closed. Other gauges need the tanks open and to have your BBQ line pressurized before they show you how full they are. The only think I wish was different was for the gauge to sit on top of the tank, how my bbq sits, I can't see the side of my tank where the indicator is very easily. But as long as you remember red is low and not empty this will be great for you.

    Yes, I recommend this product.

    Empty doesn't actually mean empty!

We bought the Sure Flame tank one month ago, and it came with the gauge free. Thought it was a great idea at the time until the tank was seemingly running out really quickly (we've owned lots of bbqs and tanks, and a full tank generally lasts 2 months at least, using it frequently!) It was reading at completely empty within 4 weeks of buying it, so I took the tank and weighed it, discovering that there was still 5lbs of propane left!!! Considering that a "full" tank is only 15lbs (after deducting the tare weight from the side of the tank), that means we still had 1/3 of the tank left! Fine to be used as a guideline, but we've bbq'd 3 times since it read completely empty, and it weighed today at still having 4lbs left.

No, I do not recommend this product.

    useless for most tanks

Thia fits only "Manchester SureFlame" tanks which I have never heard of. For everyone else, it is completely useless. There should be a warning about this onthe description.

Q: How does this gauge work> The instructions say to insert the round sensor into the recessed area on the side of the valve (which seems to be blanked off) How does it measure the amount left in the tank??
