Good for very light work like jewellery or brazing sheet metal. For 1/8" metal get a real Oxt/acetylene set-up. One tank of gas can require 30 to 40 Oxy tanks.

Q: will this torch cut bolts? just wondering if this torch will cut bolts on cars? like muffler and other rusted bolts?

A: I have had this torch set for 20 years and use it on exhaust parts and to free rusted bolts. It will heat bolts up cherry red as well as rust-bonded exhaust parts. It can cut exhaust metal but typically not bolts. Excellent for the home mechanic. MAP or propane lasts forever, but oxygen last approx 10 minutes per bottle. I usually keep two full oxygen bottles on hand at all times when performing auto repairs. Use it quickly and shut the oxygen off. Yes it can be expensive replacing bottles but it is much cheaper then buying and maintaining a professional torch set. This tool will be used over and over again. Highly recommended for exhaust work for the home mechanic.

Q: I personally need to use this one for melting and actually smelting refractory precious metals beginning with platinum which I am sure that it will take down but what about iridium(melting at 2466°C),or higher?

A: Hi Just Asking, Thank you for your question. We do not recommend that you use propane with this Kit. To ensure proper working of this torch it is strongly recommend that you only use MAPP fuel (yellow cylinder) which burns at a higher temperature, along with the Oxygen ( red cylinder). A: Hi GABE, The run time on this kit should be around 30 minutes. However, the oxygen cylinder that is included in this kit contains compressed oxygen and is very light, and due to the cylinder’s size and the capacity of compressed oxygen, it can have a shorter run time (around 15 minutes) compared with the MAPP gas, depending on the usage. If there are multiple failed attempts at lighting, this could deplete the Oxygen cylinder quickly and lead to a shorter usage time for the torch. The introduction of the oxygen to the MAPP flame can be a delicate process. On the initial introduction if there is too much oxygen added at once, it will extinguish the flame, and inversely, if there is not enough oxygen added the flame will burn itself out. Getting the desired flame may take a few attempts causing the oxygen cylinder to deplete quickly. We trust this addresses your question. Faheem Schroeder
