A: No. Shade 14 is needed for solar eclipses. You could damage your eyes with shade 5 as it's not dark enough.

A: This is the shade level of the goggles, which is acceptable for brazing and basic torch work. The higher the number, the darker the lens. A shade level of 9 to 13 is more suited for welding applications, for comparison.
