Q: can this be used by both left and right handed users?

A: It's symmetrical and it should work for both. BTW, I'm left-handed (use LH to hold knife but I use RH to hold it against the sharpener).

Q: which slot do you use first and why ? please explain the instructions on how to use this sharpener.

A: Step 1: use the slot labelled 1 for a course grit to sharpen the blades edge. This will sharpen the knifes blade. Step 2: use the slot labelled 2 for a fine grit that hones a proper fine edge. This will define the blade. The sharpening slots rotate and are labelled with “small” or “large” depending on the type of knife being used.

A: Serrated knives cannot be sharpened with any retail purchased sharpener. Perhaps professionally.
