Kidde Smart Battery-Powered Water Leak Detector w/ App Capability

Before I bought this water and leak detector, I read all of the positive and negative reviews. These included issues people had opening the battery door and syncing the detector with the KIDDE App. I was expecting the worst to happen, so I read the instructions numerous times and I was prepared, but it didn’t happen. So here are a few tips. The detector comes with an Instruction Manual and also a Quick Start Card. The Quick Start Card has TWO QR Codes. One to download the KIDDE App and one to sync the detector with the App. It’s important not to confuse the two. Download the KIDDE App successfully, before you start trying to Sync the detector. In my case I already had the App for a cottage alarm, so all I needed to do was first find a separate home location for the House water sensor. (Which was by hitting the + sign in the upper Right corner of the app). Anyway I understand why people comment on issues opening the door. When you loosen the screws partially the door doesn’t pop up immediately, so continue to loosen the screws some more (they are loosely attached to the lid and do NOT separate from the lid). Once the screws are in the up position from the lid, you can use a small pick or safety pin to GENTLY lever open the lid. Then the lid just pops off and you can install the batteries and scan the second QR code to install the sensor. You can test the detector by putting a screwdriver across the metal contacts (read the instructions because they tell you how much time to apply the screwdriver). In my case, after the syncing, I got a message explaining that the detector was downloading the latest software update, which took a few minutes. Anyway the detector and App all work, so no issues so far.

The setup of the app is a pain in the butt. There are lots of things you need to do that the instructions don't explicitly call out like 2.4 GHz WIFI, WIFI password can't be long, no special characters, etc. Lots of trial an error and ChatGPT, but I did get it connected and tested it with water and it did alert audibly and on my phone. Didn't test the freeze feature.

Bought this today. The email verification process to set up the account won't recognise the password so won't allow set up of account. to verify the error was not on my part, I re-did the process and tried different emails and diligently wrote down the password then copied pasted each time. Despite that it continued to claim "invalid password". If this simple part of the process fails so easily it does not bode well for the rest of the software.

For those of you who gave this product a fail... YOU ARE WORNG. This is an excellent product, easy to setup, and easy to monitor via app. I RECOMMEND THIS PRODUCT.

I purchased this leak detector five months ago, yesterday I got a notification that it lost connection to the internet. After following the how to reconnect instructions it wouldn’t reconnect, I removed and reinserted the batteries still no go, added fresh brand new batteries still no luck. Called tech support and they had me redo the same instructions (the very thing I told them I had been doing for the last half hour. After attempting the reconnect procedure while on the phone they finally reconfirmed that the device is faulty. If you still plan on purchasing this KEEP THE RECEIPT, like I should have done.
