Great for bedding rifle receivers in wood stocks

I have used JB Weld steel bedding 5 rifle receivers in wood stocks. Follow the mixing directions. Coat all metal contact parts with wax shoe polish, coat all screw threads with shoe polish, pack shoe polish in all screw holes.then tighten screws to about 90%. Wait 6 hours and gently tap barrel to remove metal from wood. Inspect results, scrape off excess JB Weld from outside stock and where not needed. Re-assemble, tighten to max and wait next day for JB Weld to cure. Disassemble and clean up metal & finish wood stock. I think JB Weld steel is superior to other epoxy - easy to work, hard and strong, heat resistant and cost less than other gun bed epoxy. I patched a pink surface chip in a cast iron cooking pot with JB Weld and the patch has lasted for years in oven temps up to 400 F.

Yes, I recommend this product.

We keep it in shop inventory at all times. You do have to wait for it to cure so you need to factor that into your procedures.

Questions

1 - 4 of 4 Questions

Q: Will this bond to fiberglass? I want to repair a screw hole and re-add the screw. If yes which would be better for water tight screw strength; add screw while JBWeld is still soft in the hole, or let dry, drill, and then re-screw?

  • A: It depends on the job. You didn't give enough details but it should bond to fiberglass just fine. When dry, it has the consistency of very hard plastic. But I'm not sure it is strong enough to hold great loads (unless you apply it 1/2" thick). I've used it to repair a large crack in my bumper, glued plastic clips on metal, etc. I hope this helps.

Q: This material says it can be used on metals, does this include aluminum? Thanks

1 Answer
  • A: Yes, the 8280CAN or 8281CAN J-B Weld PRO Size or 8265SCAN or 8272CAN will work well on aluminum. Make sure surface is very clear and I recommend sanding or scoffing the surface before you use our epoxy. Also, see link youtube video on JB Weld on aluminum boat. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eraWQBNpCYA
