Good, tough hold

I used this to fix some holes in an aluminum rowboat left by previous owners bolting/riveting various accessories. Filled the holes mainly with small machine screws and nuts, then coated with MarineWeld. 6 years later, it's still holding up and keeping it dry. If the tubes were bigger, I'd coat EVERY rivet on both of my boats in this stuff. It has also come in handy for filling pinholes in small engine gas tanks and even building small accessories for Halloween costumes (like an MIB Neurolyzer!) and

Q: Will this bond metal to plastic? The latch handle on my colwing is a hard plastic, and it developed a crack allowing it to spin freely on a metal shaft. I am trying to fill the gap and bond it to the metal shaft.

  • A: Hello! There are specific glues just for plastic that are sold, and called “ plastic weld “. There are various manufacturers of these glues. I believe JB Weld has one also. I would recommend using this type of glue over any of the glue welds for metal. You will have a better chance of being successful using the “ PLASTIC WELD” type glue. Thanks!

Q: Does this product require a fairly rough texture for both surfaces that are being bonded? (I'm guessing bonding two smooth surfaces will lead to a far weaker bond if any at all?)

  • A: Yes rough is better for sure and clean with acetone

Q: Does the product have an exothermic (heat) output during mixing or curing? (My application is to repair a sprinkler but there may be some temperature sensitive parts)

  • A: It does, but I don’t think it gets that hot. When I was using it, I would say it got to about 30 degrees Celsius or so. The quick cure stuff gets pretty hot though. Steamed in the fall in BC
