Just what I was looking for at a reasonable price

    Made in Japan

This saw is excellent. It cuts poplar and birch alike with very little effort. The only problem I had was that the coarser teeth seemed to catch on the dead poplar I was working on and splinter rather than cut it; however, the finer teeth had no problem dealing with the wood.

    Worth the money

I am a cabinetmaker. As a professional, I rarely do hand-cut wood joints. (We do these with table saws and routers.) So when I was asked to teach a group of people some basic hand work, I had to provide the students with more than just the one forty year old back saw I had in the shop. I didn't want to spend two hundred dollars for a big name brand, so I chose this inexpensive pull saw from CT. Most of my students chose to wait to use the old back saw because they found it easier to use. This pull saw is certainly worth the money, but if you want a fancy high-end tool, you may want to pay more.

    Questions

    1 - 1 of 1 Question

Q: Would this be suitable for cutting a laminate kitchen counter top with tear out or chipping.

    • A: I really don't think this tool is heavy duty enough to cut laminate, and I don't think you would get a straight, vertical cut. Great saw, but not the right tool for the job.
