another review said trust the bad reviews and I second that first off it's far to coarse for seed starting. second fungus gnats were evident early on but the batch that I got also had onion root maggots which I didn't realize until my seedlings were 3 months old an entire tray almost overnight. please save yourself the grief do not purchase this product.

Far too coarse for seed-starting.

This "seed starting" mix is coarser than many brands of orchid mix. It is fairly airy and might actually make a decent potting soil for tropicals, but it is ludicrously unsuited to being labelled as it is. Many of the cells in my seed starting trays had chips of solid material as big as the entire opening of the cell. The main benefit of using a seed starting mix versus regular potting soil is that it is supposed to be more finely screened.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Q: As pointed out by a company rep, the sticks, bark, etc. will eventually break down. Walker Industries, the parent of the product manufacturer could surely afford to wait for two or three more years to allow for further break down. Why didn't they?

A: I remain unconvinced. ALL seed starting mixtures contain wood fibre. The point is that yours contains an EXCESSIVE amount. Show us the studies, preferably peer reviewed, that back up your claim that it “performs the same or better than tradition peat mixes”.
