Useless.

I purchased this device about a year ago and it hasn't attracted one single bug to get zapped. The catcher at the bottom of the device is as clean as when I purchesded it.

Tray full of insects after just 1 day after installation

Simple operation. Placed in a sheltered location on the deck and actually witnessed a mosquito getting sucked in. The next day the tray was already have full with an assortment of bugs

This thing does not work at all would never buy it again . had it on for days never caught one mosquito or fly or anything else.

New Model working great so far

I really like this version. It looks better than other traps and gives you a mesh at the bottom to show you the damage it does. Not sure if the other reviewers are aware but the residue on the bottom mesh is actually chopped up insects....mostly moths and mosquito. The blue lighting also looks nice at night and this machine isn't as loud as other versions Ive tried... great product

I didn't find this very useful outside, but I use it inside over night and works great to catch the bugs that get into the house. I am happy overall with this item.

Q: will this trap beneficial flying insects like bumble bees i have a problem with small flies, but also have a nearby bumble bee nest - i want to kill off the flies, but leave the bumble bees alone

A: Moths are pollinators, so they are beneficial insects. Any insect that is attracted to light, such as moths, will be killed by this type of bug zapper. These are awful for the environment because they kill indiscriminately, any insect that goes to the light. Mosquitoes and other biting bugs are not attracted by light so they won't be affected by it. Waste of money and not 'green' in any sense of the word.

Q: Does this catch mosquitos and black flies? Does it work as good as the propane style fly catchers?

A: Mosquitoes and black flies, as other biting insects, are not attracted by light. So they're not interested in this thing. They are attracted by your body warmth, your breath, and your scent. This type of trap shouldn't even be sold as all it does is kill insects that are attracted to light, such as moths. Moths are beneficial insects because they are pollinators.
