Bio-Weed Effectiveness - fact or fiction?

I am neutral on this product. Promises on weed control. Actual fine print does not state current weed control, but only control of weed seeds. Results cannot be viewed immediately but supposedly prevents future growth of new weeds. When can I expect positive results - UNKNOWN.

Strong fertilizer

Excellent fertilizer, I used on the lawn as well as a young blackberry tree that we planted in the yard, it works great in enhancing the growth of the plants. Bonus point, it's Canadian made , while most competitors are US made.

Questions

1 - 10 of 30 Questions

Q: I would like to know when the best time is to put Weed and feed on the lawn.

4 Answers
  • A: Early spring OR late fall. Keep in mind it takes a year for the results to really be seen as it prevents "new" weeds from growing. It also prevents new grass from growing so do not over seed at the same time.

Q: Can a standard fertilizer be used at the same time? I know this is primarily for inhibiting weeds.

  • A: No this product is a fertilizer. You may burn your lawn by adding more

Q: I have a Scott's mini edge rotary spreader. Does anyone know what setting I should put it on

2 Answers
  • A: Short answer is I don't know. Long answer is take a measured amount of fertilizer for a proportional amount of lawn (small section) as per coverage spec and give it a try to see if you have correct setting.

Q: Following the application of the fertilizer herbicide CIL Golfgreen Bio-Weed and Feed how much time do I have to wait to sow grass seeds?

2 Answers
  • A: You should not seed after using this product, apply in spring. It prevents weed seeds from germinating and other seeds too... It will not kill weeds that are already growing, you have to dig them out this season , but they will not sprout from new seeds that are laid . takes time like anything that is worthwhile, I guess.

Q: BIrds and Watering questions... Is it harmful to birds (or volls and mice-I am sure volls and mice will unavoidably be attracted to it, but will birds?) ? And: Is it necessary to water lawn after application?

2 Answers
  • A: Not at all harmful but the birds will eat it and thus reduce its effectiveness. I put down a light top soil dressing after applying it to help stop that and it works well.

Q: just applied bio weed and feed, then we got snow 3 days afterwards. will it still have taken effect? the second part to my question is, we also have a TON of creeping charlie, how long after the weed and feed can I spray for them? Please help!

1 Answer
  • A: Yes the Bio weed & feed is actually 90% Corn meal/gluten & for some natural reason it smothers (so to speak) the weed seeds & will help stop them from germinating. The first thing to always come up first are the weeds. So by applying this first thing in March  will get the weeds before they get to you. So if that it snows after the application, it will do just  fine to dilute (slowly) the corn gluten into your weed seeds. If this is applied after the weeds start to grow, it will have very little effect. The key is to get it on the lawn before they germinate.   Terrific stuff !  It works very well.

Q: I thought Weeds & Feeds product was prohibited in Canada. Is this product legal?

1 Answer
  • A: Yes this is legal. This is “Bio w&f”. Corn gluten to suppress seed germination only. It does not kill weeds but stops more from starting.
