      Questions

      1 - 3 of 3 Questions

Q: Is there a mesh screen to allow use with doors open?

      3 Answers
      • A: The glass used in these doors is tempered glass which is designed NOT to break into jagged pieces of broken but break into many small pieces. Tempered glass will withstand temps of up to 500 degrees farenheit. Manufacturers always advise to operate with glass doors in the open position. That's simply because of liability issues. They have no control over how large a fire a home owner will build. Providing the flames are kept 5" - 6" away from the glass and providing the temperatures do not exceed 500 degrees you can get away with burning a fire with the doors closed. A little common sense goes a long way. If, however, the glass door assembly does not incorporate any kind of draft system then you'll have to keep the doors open to provide combusion air to the fire. Most do have a draft system located at the bottom of the frame for this purpose.

Q: What is the width of the glass? I have a narrow opening~ 24". I would like to know how much brick would be visible behind either end of the glass? This assumes I can jury rig attachments from the fireplace door frames to secure it to the brick opening.

      1 Answer
      • A: Our smallest glass door firescreen fits an opening at its smallest measurements of 30”W x 22.5”H. If 24” is the width this glass door will not fit properly. It is also for masonry fireplaces only and typically will not mount to a prefabricated fireplace, which based on the small opening, the customers fireplace may be prefabricated. The “viewing area” or glass area of this item is 28” W x 19.5”H so there would approximately 2 inches of visible brick on each side if 24” is the width.

Q: How far does it protrude into the fireplace at top and sides?

      1 Answer
      • A: The fire screen glass doors are designed as a surface mount and sit outside the fireplace opening against a flat surface such as marble or brick.
