WARRANTY IS LAUGHABLE

so you buy the generator, it fails-you call the only dealer in the state that can work on it, they tell you it's a month until they can even come out and see it, you fix it yourself and all Generac can say is "glad it all worked out!" then accuse you of not following the maintenance guidelines. HAAAARD PASS

No, I do not recommend this product.

Generac Support
We’re very sorry to hear about your experience — this is absolutely not the level of support we aim to provide. We understand how frustrating it must have been to experience an issue with your generator and then face a long service delay. While authorized dealers manage their own service schedules, we want to help ensure your concerns are properly addressed. If you could please submit a request to our customer support team at https://www.generac.com/about/contact-us/ with your generator’s serial number and your contact information, we will review what happened and work with you to make things right. We truly value your feedback — it helps us improve both our products and the service experience for every customer.

New to Generac world

Veery difficult to review a standby generator because an unexpected power failure is real test. Wee bought our 26KW Generac last year and hasn't seen a power failure yet. In fact, been in this house for last 20 years and lost power twice and not more than 8 hours either time. Generator looks well designed and exercise as programmed. Not very loud and sending notices via text messages via wifi connection is awesome. I hope I never needed to use it but it comforting to know that we have a standby generator just in case we loose power. Specially when my wife's health conditions do not allow to be without power for extended period of time. The mobilink app is good but should not have to a price to edit exercise schedule. I paid but didn't like that option. Overall I am happy so far.

love power outages

i bought my generac 14 kw generator in october of 2021, so I think I can give it a fair review now in october 2025. The generator has been flawless, except last yr. on a sub zero afternoon it wouldn't start to run it's weekly maintenance cycle, but that's the only hiccup I've had with it. I would highly recommend this generator. Ive lost power countless times and it's always come through. I also like the fact that this model has the hydraulic valves that don't need adjusting.

An absolute dream

We live in a very wooded suburb of Boston. One might think that living 30 minutes outside of a city isn't the type of place for power issues, but our town is densely wooded with lots of tall mature pines everywhere. Whenever there's any kind of storm, be it a thunderstorm in the summer, a nor'easter or ice storm in the winter, we lose power almost guaranteed. The power company in our area is also extremely slow to restore power. Any outage guarantees at least 12+ hours of downtime, with many outages lasting 2-3 days. We got tired of spoiled food, no heat, and just huge headaches. We got this 18kW Generac 7226 installed by a local dealer last year, and it's already gotten us through two multi-day outages. It's so nice to not worry about our refrigerator and our heat in the wintertime anymore. We're able to continue our daily lives as normal while it just hums away outside powering our house. The automatic transfer switch takes care of switching back to main power after immediately once it's back, even in the middle of the night. If you're on the fence, go for a Generac. You won't be disappointed.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Good Machine but With Issue

Just over a week or so ago I purchased a new 14 kw standby generator, and had it installed by Pine Tree Standby Power - They were excellent from start to finish - Generator wise, it seems to run well after test trials and has exercised twice since install - My heartburn comes from this - One of the advertised features of this unit is the ability to remotely monitor it via its onboard Wi-Fi module and a downloaded app on your smart phone - This was important to me as I am handicap and it is hard for me to get to the generator - A great feature if it actually worked - I must preface comments by saying I am retired from a 40 year career in network engineering so I know just a little - After hours of attempts to setup the generator Wi-Fi, all failures, I concluded that the unit was not communicating with the network - The unit is no more than 15 feet from the router, and yes I was sending 2.4Ghz signal to it. I began research only to find that this is a VERY common issue for this unit - I called support and got a gent who was very polite but lackluster - After making me walk through EVERYTHING I had already done (and told him so) he concluded the generator was not communicating with the network and wasn't going to it seemed - His suggestion was that I look into a Wi-Fi extender to increase signal or get a different Generac Wi-Fi module - After research, I learned that Generac has known about the weak Wi-Fi module issues yet let them exist and still keeps plugging the feature in ads and flyers - Yes I could buy a network extender. Yes I could order the replacement Generac Wi-Fi module from their website at a cost of over over $300 - BUT why should I have to pay to make the 14,000 dollar investment run as advertised? Any distance over 20 feet from the router and the supplied module will not get/hold connection - If you are thinking of this unit for the remote monitoring look elsewhere - As the unit is only two weeks old I am seriously thinking of calling the dealer to refund me, take it lout, and then get a more reliable one

No, I do not recommend this product.

Generac Support
Thank you for sharing your detailed feedback and for choosing Generac. We’re glad to hear that your installation experience with Pine Tree Standby Power was excellent and that your generator is running well so far. We understand how important the remote monitoring feature is, especially given your accessibility needs. We sincerely apologize for the frustration you’ve experienced with the Wi-Fi module. While our generators are designed to support onboard Wi-Fi and remote monitoring via the Mobile Link app, we recognize that some customers encounter connectivity challenges. Here are a few troubleshooting steps and considerations that may help resolve this: Wi-Fi Connectivity: The generator’s Wi-Fi module is factory-set for 2.4GHz networks, and placement within 20 feet of the router is typically recommended. However, environmental factors can impact performance. If you haven’t already, ensure there are minimal physical obstructions between the generator and your router. Troubleshooting: As our support team recommended, using a Wi-Fi extender may boost your network signal and help establish a stable connection. That said, we understand your concern about additional costs, and we agree that advertised features should work as expected without extra investment. Continuous Improvement: Your feedback is essential for us to improve our products and services. We encourage you to share additional details with our support team so we can escalate your case and explore possible solutions. If you’d like to discuss your experience further or need direct assistance, please contact our support team at 888-436-3722. We are committed to making this right and ensuring you have a reliable remote monitoring experience. Thank you again for your honest review and for helping us improve.

Q: Do you need to run the generac through a transfer switch

2 Answers
  • A: If you only want it for automatic operation in a power failure you need a transfer switch. You could hook up directly and turn on once started by flipping the breaker for power, but using a break as a switch is never recommended. Generac is made for power failures not for full time power like for a cottage or something similar. There maybe be better generator for that out there for continuous use.

Q: What comes with the 22kw generator? Does it come equipped with everything for complete hookup with exception of the battery. If not what else will need to be purchased for this model? Please add product #'s.

  • A: A battery (does not ship with it) A transfer switch – this part depends on the electric box in the house: 0550400 100A CSA AUTO TRNSFR - 100 AMP AUTO TRANSFER SWITCH 0550401 200A CSA AUTO TRNSFR - 200 AMP AUTO TRANSFER SWITCH If a cold weather kit is needed (recommended for anything north of the GTA): 0550402 BATTERY PAD WARMER - BATTERY PAD WARMER FOR GENERAC HOME STANDBY GENERATORS 0550403 OIL FILTER WARMER - OIL FILTER WARMER FOR GENERAC HOME STANDBY GENERATORS 0550404 BREATHER KIT - BREATHER WARMER KIT FOR GENERAC HOME STANDBY Finally – anything else would be dependent on the exact install. Additional piping, propane tank, or other hardware may be needed but the electrician installing it would have to note this to the homeowner.

Q: Regarding the 22 KW Generac, ( propane powered ),  Can this unit be installed inside a building, and exhausted to the outside environment? Is there an approved installer in Whitehorse?

1 Answer
  • A: No the unit cannot be installed inside a building and vented. There are no approved installers in Whitehorse. I do recommend contacting their local electrician who in many instances has installed a Generac before and are able to completing the task. We ask that they follow our instructions when installing.

Q: I am considering this generator but need to know what would be the best tank size to run propane.. no natural gas option here.

1 Answer
  • A: I typically recommend a minimum of 420 lb tank if they are not using it for anything else but the HSB. 500 Gallon is a very popular option and likely the best option as the supply will last quite a while.

Q: With a 22kw generator, What size and how many propane tanks is needed to run the generator, cant get an answer from either Generac or a propane company?

1 Answer
  • A: he 22kw are rated at 240 volts. With regards to what size propane tank you would need, the 22KW will consume between 10 and 15 litres of propane per hour at half to full load. The size would likely be a 400 lb or 500 lb tank seems to be the most popular. We recommend speaking to your local propane provider for best results.
