Better than a muddy dog area!

The purchase was actually Pea Rock which is a bit larger than Pea Gravel but it works very well in the dog area of the back yard, so much better than mud. Certainly would purchase again if necessary.

The bag came completely unsealed when I tried to lift it out of my trunk. Most of the bag spilled everywhere. Terrible mess.

Q: How many square feet will one package cover if applied 2" deep?

  • A: We used 25 bags to cover under our small back deck (6X9) and stairs, probably slightly less than 2 inches deep in some parts though.

Q: Has anyone has used this for outdoor fish ponds? I am prepared to wash them first but figured it wouldn’t hurt to ask in case someone has an opinion this application. Thanks

  • A: ANSWER: There is a lot of missing information here regarding your pool, but I will address your question assuming this is your first pond. Our small back yard fish pond is about 34 years old this year and measures approximately 6 ft. in diameter and 15" (inches) of water depth. That is a municipal bylaw. Any deeper requires a perimeter fence to protect youngsters from falling in. Now to the pebbles. Usually packaged rocks ( pebbles etc ) sold commercially, have been washed during their production and packaging, so no I wouldn't waste my time washing them unless there is a considerable amount of dirt (litter etc ) in the bag they come in. Years ago I used some white pebbles thinking the fish would show up better. But here is the thing. Our property contained about 30 spruce trees when we built. That type of tree gives off an amazing amount of pollen, which along with leaves in the fall from other trees, quickly builds up on the bottom of your fish pond. That rotting material along with left over food ( from giving them more than what they eat in 5 minutes ), fish poo, lily pads and dirt seeping from potted pond plants will very soon cover your pebbles. Now if you live in the desert, that problem probably doesn't exist. We installed a simple pond pump and filter system which does help, but the pebbles are still covered. If this is your first fish pond, here is what I was told on day one. " Decide on how large you want your pond to be, and then make it larger." The thought is that you will end up spending a lot of hobby time making this feature draw out the WOW comments from those who wish they had one. The pond set up ends up providing some wonderful relaxation for the whole family. We have three 10" gold fish and their probably a couple of dozen young that are born each year. There are also a couple of wild frogs that come back every spring and have been with us for at least 3 years so far. They will do well themselves, but will accept live food and sometimes actually snap at each other in their bid to get that meal. Note: Do your research first before building your pond. Visit someone with a pond and ask questions. Buy good stock - our 10 inch fish were about 4 inches when we bought them. Use good commercial fish food designed for what you have. If you have cold winters, get a pond heater which will keep an area of ice open thus allowing the gases from rotting leaves from killing the fish. Pumping air into the pond also keeps them more healthy. Materials are available at our local Canadian Tire Store, ( liners, filters, pumps, along with liquids that can be added to the pond to keep the floating debris from clouding up the water ) and making your pond the feature you have always wanted - look perfect. I hope this has been of some assistance. Good luck. KB

Q: What size is the pea gravel in millimetres?

1 Answer
  • A: There is no one particular size of pea gravel. The best answer that we can get is ½ “ minus. Which means that the size can vary but is no greater than ½ “.
