Great Thermal Tip Up. Easy to Set-Up & Use

Great thermal tip up that keeps the hole from freezing over. I have been using the traditional tip ups for years and this year decided to get this thermal style so I didn't have to keep clearing my hole from freezing over. This tip up allows for many customizations that will allow you to set your own sensitivity and visibility. The extra long flag with light is great for days when the show is blowing or when you're set-up in low light conditions.
The tip up comes pre spooled with line as an added bonus.

Functions well, but some design flaws

Pro
- Thermal insulation is great. Holes don't freeze up.
- Very long flag
- Good lubricated spool.
- Line marker, flasher, and tackle box built in are nice. Line is good quality but not long enough.
Cons
- The spring that holds the flag will pop out sometimes when the flag gets triggered. I had to gorilla glue my spring into the hole so it wouldn't fly out when getting triggered.
- The flag collapses in the middle for easier storage, but it's a very very flimsy connector piece. It's a tiny piece of plastic holding it together. There's no way it will hold up to abuse or the cold. I'd recommend bringing tape along whenever you use it for when it fails.
- The line does not spool onto the reel evenly, it bunches up in the center.
No, I do not recommend this product.

Q: what lights up and does it take batteries?

A: The tip up light that is included in the kit lights up and is motion activated. The light has an on / off switch that when in the on position activates a red LED light when it senses motion. The Light is attached to the flag arm and when it swings up, it glows red. The Light uses a flat button watch battery.
