An excellent budget shredder

I've had this product over 4 years and it has consistanly done it's job on a weekly basis. I've never had a single problem with it and I am so pleased I thought I'd write this review. This really is a workhorse of a shredder in a home office and makes light work of any job from papers, cd's, credit cards etc it gives me the confidence that I will not lose my details to anyone riffling through my garbage.

Just opened box. Item is not as big as I thought. Easy to assemble. Relatively quiet. Time will tell on durability.

This is the best business machine I have ever purchased ! It runs so smoothly and is very durable, reliable and efficient. It makes shredding pages a pleasant task.

Unit completely failed without warning!

This is the first time I've ever had such an experience with any mechanical or electronic product. I bought this unit about a year ago, and my warranty on it had just ended. Just the other day I needed to shred something, and it wouldn't turn on. I checked everything, double checked all connections, and no difference, it still wouldn't turn on. This unit died absolutely with no warning. I always maintained the unit properly, I oiled the blades at the proper intervals, never exceeded the maximum sheet capacity either. During the year I had it when it did work, I found it to be nosier than advertised, and prone to jamming. It also would get quite hot after only running for a minute. I will never again buy this brand. I am going to spend more to buy an office/commercial level shredder from a competitor brand that offers a much better warranty. This was my first Fellowes product, and the fact that this unit completely died only days after the warranty expired is disgraceful. I definitely will not recommend this brand to any friends or family.

Q: How do I turn it on?

A: Hi Izzy. The H8CD has a control switch located on the upper right corner of the shredder head (top). The 'O' is off. The right arrow icon is the 'Auto-On' or forward direction and is used for shredding (note: the green light will come on when you switch to 'auto-on') . The double left arrow is for reverse.
