5W-30 instead of 0W-20

a month ago

CAFE - stands for ‘corporate aggregate fuel efficiency’ and is the reason so many vehicles recommend 0-weight oils for their vehicles. They are trying to increase fuel efficiency be any means possible. It is also the reason GM had to replace so many engines - they had almost no lubrication at start-up causing engines to seize. On the advice of a Lexus technician, I’m now using 5W-30 instead of the specified 0W-20.

Q: Is it’s recommended for 2011 Acura RDX

A: According to Castrol's lubrication guide recommended for the 2011 Acura RDX 2.3L, 5W-30 motor oil meeting Honda/Acura HTO-06 is required. The Castrol EDGE High Mileage 5W-30 does not meet Honda/Acura HTO-06 therefore, it would not be recommended for this engine. You can, however, use the Castrol EDGE 5W-30 US or the Castrol EDGE Extended Performance 5W-30 in this engine as both formulas meet the Honda/Acura HTO-06 requirement. Castrol always recommends following the guidelines of the original engine manufacturer for the recommended grade and API specific to your application. This information can be found in the vehicle's owner's manual or by contacting the manufacturer directly. Before using any lubricant, please make sure that the product specifications meet or exceed the lubricant specifications required by the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) for that specific use.
