Poor resolution and colour

The good stuff -
Compact receiver unit, easy to set up, wireless works great, motion detection is excellent, storage on memory cards sure better then vcr or dvd's!
The bad stuff -
HORRIBLE resolution! Looks awful on a TV set, somewhat better on computer. We have HDTV, there's no excuse for such poor resolution in this day and age.
Colour camera? What colour? There's only the faintest pastel hint of maybe a blue sky. Trees and shrubs come out white! To call this a colour camera is laughable.
Motion recordings are jerky. The sound has an annoying background noise.
I regret having purchased this system, and wouldn't recommend it. No excuse for such poor video performance with today's technology.

Pretty good - should do the job

Set-up was easy but you must plug in to your TV or your computer's video card with the (yellow) RCA jack. You don't need to stay connected to your TV or computer for normal operation (just for set-up). You can view your captured images (which are all videos - you can choose how long in the set-up) by connecting to your TV or computer, or you can take the Secure Digital card out of the unit and plug it into your TV (if equipped) or computer to view the images (all stored in a basic file system as AVI files).
Digital picture quality is good, even in no light conditions (the camera emits a low-frequency red light which can't be seen, but to the camera it looks like the lights are on and therefore the picture quality is great).
The biggest drawback is that the digital camera is expensive (do not attempt to use the cheaper analog camera - it will not work). You can connect up to 4 cameras to one base unit (the base unit comes with 1 camera). Canadian Tire does put them on sale a few times a year, so keep your eyes open for the deal (it's worth it!).
Consider buying a larger Secure Digital (SD) card. The base unit comes with 2GB, but the unit can accept up to a 32GB SD card. However, you can also have the unit re-write over older captured images when it runs out of space on the SD card (this is configurable in the set-up). But you may lose important video captures if you do this without frequent back-up of the smaller capacity SD card (like, if you go on vacation).

j'ai recu la caméras de surveillance pour les fetes de noel et sa rapporter, j'ai eu une petite surprise la caméras a détectecter une souris dans la maison, alors sa pas été trop long quelle est morte,elle l'as détecter en noirceur et je la voyais tres bien tres bonne caméras de surveillance en plus sans fil tu la mais partout dans la maison .désoler mais j'ai juste des vidéos pas de photo

Q: How many cameras can be used & is it pc compatible Need to know how many cameras can be used and is it pc compatible. Also is it better than its predecessor Product #46-0204-8 as that model has its drawbacks ie: cordless phones etc... look at reviews on that product for examples.

A: The cameras communicate with the receiver via an encrypted wireless connection, which can not be directly received or displayed or captured by a PC. However a PC - equipped with a video capture card - would be able to capture the composite output from the recorded, as it would any other standard video signal from a VCR, (dubbing cables), etc. Radio frequencies are automatically chosen by the camera and recorder so that radio interference is minimized. The communication is digital so the picture received is always perfectly clear. The signals of up to 4 cameras can be received by the unit. However I have an unresolved issue as to how many cameras can be recorded. One certainly, but it isn't obvious how to record 4 cameras at the same time, or in short sequences. The other camera/receiver setup sold by CT (not digital, and hence incompatible with these cameras), will record 4 cameras at a time by hopping between them. Unfortunately this system is not digital, so the picture can be distorted by Radio interference and additional the cameras are only sold with their own receiver, so adding each additional camera means purchasing an unnecessary receiver. With regard to the number of cameras that can be recorded... When this issue is resolved I will post the answer here. So far Swan hasn't responded to my Email. Could be a Christmas backlog.

A: You can easily record over 3 hours continuous footage to a 2GB card but can also be expanded to record over 2 days of continuous recording on a 32 GB SD Card.

Q: if the camera doesn't take batteries so does the camera has to be plugged into an outlet?

A: The camera requires power and as such it comes with a low voltage plug-in adapter. Wireless cameras do not operate on batteries. The camera is constantly transmitting the video images 24/7 when operating therefore batteries would only last days or a week at best.
