DEWALT DCD200B 20V MAX XR Drain Snake, Tool Only

I have owned this for two years, but I'm ready to upgrade to a competitive model that is more capable. On the plus side, the unit has a very long service life (one battery can easily get you through a day's work), and the light is very handy when working under cabinets. It has lasted over the years, and does appear to be very well-built. However, the cons far outweigh the pros. As other reviewers have noted, this is a manual feed option, but there are competitive auto-feed models available within a similar price range. I highly recommend going that route for convenience. As other reviewers have noted, the auger is 35' long but is not anchored to the drum at all. There is no warning when you are about to feed the last section into the pipe, and it comes loose from the tool very easily. I wrapped some red tape about a foot before the end as a warning sign to myself, but this seems like something the engineers at Dewalt could have solved for quite easily. The unit works and is capable, but there are better options available for anyone who is doing service work and clearing drains regularly.

Easy to use makes drain cleaning easy, hand feed not automatic so you can feel when you hit the clog or the obstruction or hit the main line. Nice not to have power cord in your way.

I dont do a ton of snaking anymore, but I wish I had this when I did. Not having to lay out cords is so nice! Good long battery life while snaking. I have a 5.0 battery on this tool and have snaked 12 calls without recharging. Plenty of power, variable speed, fairly lightweight compared to other pistol snakes. The shroud around the drum keeps the mess contained and let's me run the snake when its laying on the floor. The light is also pretty helpful when inside sink cabinets in the dark. Good tool, good design.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought the DCD200B tool only. After waiting for months to buy it, my only regret was not buying it sooner. Very professional design and feel. Add the ease of not having to plug in makes this amazing and safer in situations where there is a lot of water. In the 4 months that I have had it, I have used it 30+times. Never have I needed more power or even depleted a battery. The cable has also stayed very clean and has not rusted like other cables.
