Bag and straps may melt from the exhaust

The tray is just above the trailer hitch, which in my case put the bag about 6 inches directly in back of the exhaust tip. Though the bag and tray never touched the exhaust, and I only idled the car for a couple of minutes with the bag on, the bag started to melt from the heat of the exhaust and two of the straps were cut by the exhaust heat. The tray and bag weigh only about 20 pounds (compared to 66 pounds for steel framed alternatives), but the bag should only be used where it will not be in line with the exhaust. The reflectors on the tray are good for visibility from afar, but they are too low to be seen up close when others park behind you. I would recommend taping vertical reflectorized driveway sticks to the corners of the tray, so that the reflectors are at a parking drivers eye-level.

Gave us the extra space to carry luggage on our weekend trips with all the kids and the dogs. Way easier to access then a roof rack carrier . Easy to assemble and bag kept everything dry. Also extends so you can carry more stuff.

Q: Is there any kind of anti-theft mechanism, or way to lock the carrier to the hitch in order to prevent theft ?

A: This hitch carrier does not come from the manufacturer with a locking hitch pin. Canadian Tire has a wide assortment of locking hitch pins that would secure your cargo basket to your vehicle. Please visit your local Canadian Tire store to pick one up.

A: This cargo carrier does not require a ball mount or ball for installation – as a matter of fact, it cannot be used with a ball mount and ball installed to the vehicle. This carrier is fitted directly to the hitch receiver opening of the vehicle. The hitch receiver must be Class III or greater with a 2” by 2” opening size. The anti-wobble system is a threaded hitch pin that applies pressure to the carrier and the hitch receiver to create a snug fit without the opportunity for the carrier to bounce around in the hitch receiver opening.
