tray is too small for a regular size roller. both edges of the roller dont contact the tray so you get excessive paint on the edges of your roller

We are sorry to hear about your experience with the metal paint tray. We sell industry standard trays which are 10.5" wide to accommodate a standard 9.5" roller cover and cage frame. Sometimes, in transit the trays could get banged up causing the sides to bend. This could be what happened in your situation. PintarProductSpecialist
