Not a good solar panel system.

I previously purchased one of these with the understanding that they were ok for outdoor service. The packaging at that time stated waterproof or water resistant. The controller has a sticker on it that advises not to get it wet. That is because it is not sealed and not meant for outdoor use. I do not know if they have changed the packaging, but this unit is not suitable for outdoor use. In addition, the specifications are poorly written and difficult to find.

No, I do not recommend this product.

    Failed Amp charge controller

Might look like a good deal but when you have to buy more pieces that came with because there not working. Would have been better off just buying piece buy piece to get a better product. Just can get good products now a days at a decent price now a days. Better off getting 100 watts because there are more out there if you were looking at running 2 parallel just faster amps for charging. I did read on another review for another solar panel ready made kit from Canadian tire and it also had a failed charge controller. So I should have new better.

No, I do not recommend this product.

    • A: it will depend on the size of your battery bank and ac inverter, you will most likly need a 1500 to 2000 watt inverter to run eather of these, check wattage ratting on appliance. it may howexer take a long time to recharge your batteries. more watts equals shorter charge time. also the longer each item is used the more your batteries will discharge.

Q: Would this unit run a 110vlt water pump (1200GPM ) for a waterfall feature

    1 Answer
    • A: The Coleman 80W Solar Panel Kit with stand comes complete with a 110V power inverter to supply 300W of AC (110v) power. To calculate if this kit is powerful enough to supply enough charge into a 12V battery to run that water pump you need to identify how much power the pump requires in terms of Watts or Amps. GPM only identifies the pumps capacity to move water not the power requirement. In North America any electrical device will have its power requirements listed on the device. Once you have this information it should be clear if the 300W inverter has enough power, you can also contact our technical support department at info@sunforceproducts.com.

Q: would this panel run a light bulb, heater, and chargers for a laptop or vhf radio

    1 Answer
    • A: This kit could accumulate about 400Wh to 500Wh in a 12V battery per day. This may be enough for a few hours of use of some of the small appliances, but not the heater. Appliances such as this are usually very energy demanding.

Q: Would this work well with the Eliminator 1000A/700W Power Box The goal would be to have a tent camp site powered with mostly simple items... however what could we expect over a day of use / charging. Can this run a powered cooler all day and night? What else?

    1 Answer
    • A: This Coleman solar kit is able to provide 80W of charging power per hour of sun for 12V batteries. On a regular day this could collect about 300 to 400 Watt-hours of power. Charging time for your power box could take about 2-4 days depending on weather oncditions

Q: Battery? What kind of battery do you need? Can you get it at CT?

    1 Answer
    • A: The ideal battery for this type of solar kit is a 12V 'Deep Cycle' rechargeable battery. For batteries in colder climates and left in storage for long periods AGM technology is a good idea. Canadian Tire offer a complete line of batteries and your local store can guide you towards the options.
