spark plug problems

this motor 2.6 shack spear has left me stranded twice now all the problem is spark plug is full of carbon i clean it then works good for 2 minutes how do i august this problem if no one can help then i will dump it and never buy from coleman again

Good engine - Use for a 12 foot "tinny".

I was reluctant to purchase, but bought one on liquidation. The sales guy said it was used and returned running. Upon getting it home I checked it for any presence of gas or oil - it did not have any - so much for the sales guy speak. I planned to break in following the instruction in the manual. To begin I used shell 91 octane (which has no ethanol) and 10w40 synthetic oil. Upon attempting my first start it would not turn over. After reviewing the starting instructions in the manual and another web site on small engines the suggested fix was to change the spark plug based on the diagnosis. After replacing the spark plug the engine started one one pull !! The engine now runs at one pull every time and is great in that it can push a 12 foot aluminum boat to "almost" to plane. I accomplished this feat by being careful to keep the weight down and to set the engine trim correctly and also to insure the ventilator plate is even with the bottom of the keel. I needed to raise the transom by 3 inches. That made a big difference and the boat gets me out to the lake and back. Great engine so far. Zero disappointment.

Very happy with mine

I use mine once or twice a year deep in the bush. Starts on the first pull. Idles fine or runs hard, no matter how I set it. I failed to drain the gas at the end of last season. No worries. It started this spring on the second pull. From the reviews, it seems that people either love this motor or hate it. For my purposes, it has been great.

Don't buy Coleman outboards !!

I bought the 2.6 outboard 3 years ago. So far plastic engine cover clip broke, plastic tilt part broke,plastic tilt handle fell off,throttle cable vibrated under engine and broke. Engine stalled or quit altogether constantly or wouldn't start, took it to local outboard shop who informed me the ethanol in Canadian gas eats the plastic parts in the carburetor, no mention of this no ethanol gas use in the outboard manual! The only non ethanol gas sold is super premium at Chevron, there are no Chevron gas stations in most of Canada so this Canadian Tire product "tested for life in Canada" actually isn't designed to run on Canadian ethanol gas. Since the new carb this Coleman won't run at slow speeds, stumbles transitioning to higher speeds and still quits and strands me out on the water and no a new plug ( cary many spare plugs) doesn't help. So I'm stuck with an unreliable motor and next year will have to buy a brand name reliable motor, what do I do with the Coleman, can't even use it for an anchor (all it's good for) as it would pollute the water. Obviously DON'T BUY COLEMAN OUTBOARDS !

As fuels have been authorized to contain higher levels of ethanol it has become necessary to protect your small engine from the corrosive and high heat aspect of the higher alcohol content in ethanol fuels. Some fuels are as high as 15% (E15) ethanol. While it is true that fuel without ethanol is better for your engine, some ethanol can be used with the proper precautions. This goes for mowers, generators, as well as outboards and other small engines on the market. As fuel sits, the ethanol will separate in the tank which will cause the engine to run poorly. Having fuel sit in the carburetor for long period can cause corrosive issues. It has become necessary to frequently drain the machine and the carburetor of fuel. Secondly, we are completely stocked with every component on the 2.6 HP Outboard. We can quickly help you with part replacement. You will find our components to be comparable to name brand products. Moteur neuf

Moteur acheté fin février au moment du démarrage pour rodage le moteur ne fonctionne pas bien, étant donné que mon achat fait 91 jours je d'oit m'occuper moi même de la garantie avec Coleman qui sont situé aux USA. Ils mont suggérer un réparateur à 70 kilomètres de chez moi qui n'est pas recommandé par la clientèle de cet entreprise.
Je part pour la pêche le 4 juin et je serai obliger de me louer un moteur. Je me suis trouver un réparateur pour ces moteurs qui sont fabriquer en Chine mais je doit attendre que Coleman m'envoient les pièces par la poste. Ce moteur est neuf et il doivent changer le carburateur et le bouchon du réservoir d'essence. J'espère ne pas me retrouver au milieu d'un lac avec ce moteur d'onc n'acheter pas ce moteur.

A: Yes. Note that there is no reverse. The motor swivels around to perform reverse if you want to backtroll.

A: Yes, I have it on a 10 foot 2 inch boat of similar weight and size, it runs it perfect, my boat is rated for a 7hp but i wouldnt even put a 5hp on it , this motor is perfect

A: Check the spark plug for spark and make sure the cap that plugs into it is tight. Some new plugs can give problems.

A: La compagnie Coleman, ne fabrique pratiquement rien. L'ensemble de ses produits son fait en Chine. Dans le cas de ce moteur, c'est la compagnie Parsun qui les fabrique en Chine. A: It is four stroke so it does not need an oil gas mixture.You fill the gas tank and put 350ml of oil in the engine just like a car.

Q: what company makes this motor? Does it have a hook up for an external gas tank? Does it have a reverse gear?

A: This motor is made by Shakespeare. You can get more information if you go to their website including the manual. The 2.6 HP motor does not have an external hook up. There is no reverse gear however, the motor can be pivotted 180 degrees and then can be used to reverse.
