Terrible cables

I purchased these tire cables expecting reliable performance in snowy conditions, but they fell far short. The cables are flimsy and not durable enough for anything beyond very light snow. After just a short drive in moderate conditions, they started showing signs of wear, and I no longer trusted them to hold up. If you’re facing heavy snow or icy roads, these are not the right choice. Save your money and invest in something stronger and more dependable.

Have not had occasion to use them yet, but they are easy to install which is important when you are putting them on in February on the Coquihalla!

Not as it appears in the online photo of product

Bought online and was disappointed to find out that the chains did not come with the required spider belt tensioner even though the photo of the product online shows the belt tension installed on the tire chain, but fails to specifically indicate that this item must be purchased separately.
  • chains + additional tensioners which are required to be purchased separately

Q: Will this fit Tire size 285/70r17?

2 Answers
  • A: That’s the million dollar question!  I searched and searched on-line to see if MY TIRES fit it, with only a little confidence that they did.  Finally, when I bought them…I tried them on in the parking lot.  The staff should be able to get you the correct size; then try them on to be sure.

Q: Although it is listed under tire chains, is it made up of steel chain? It is listed as EMERGENCY as opposed to ON-ROAD, what is the difference?

1 Answer
  • A: The Cobra cable is deemed as an emergency get home chain. It is not designed for extended use and should really only be used to get the intended user out of a situation where they need extra traction and then remove when not needed. An On-road type tire chain is designed to be more robust. They have the ability to get the intended user out of a situation where they need extra traction but also be used for longer periods of time when traction is needed. With every tire chain you do not want to run the chains when they are not needed. They should be removed when there is no snow on the ground.
