Leaking after first use

I used it for one camping trip. When I disconnected it from my stove it was leaking and wouldn't stop. I took it to recycling rather than risk carrying it around in my car any longer than necessary.

Uninterested

I asked for my points to be used instead of charging me and the cashier did not listen. I only noticed when I got home. Cashier seemed distracted and uninterested in her customers.

Q: Are they refillable?

3 Answers
  • A: Legally no propane tanks are refillable unless at a certified commercial refilling station by an operator holding a valid refilling certificate. By law no operator is allowed to refill a propane tank 40lbs and under that isn't equipped with an OPD valve, which these don't have. Just a bleeder valve. Tanks over 40lbs don't require an OPD valve, they use the exact same bleeder valve that these do, and those are refillable. Made of the same steel too. Designed to handle the exact same pressure too. The pressure is the same in a 100lb tank as a 1lb tank. I guess the rationale is it's alot easier to overfill a 1lb tank than a 100lb tank. So since a certified refilling station can't legally refill a tank under 40lbs that doesn't have an OPD valve, which these don't have, no station can legally refill it for you, even though they can refill a 100lb tank, which uses the same kind of bleeder valve. And refilling any tank anywhere else is illegal.

Q: I recently purchased a new Coleman BBQ from CT, and when using this propane tank the outside visibly frosted on the outside and freaked me out a bit, is this usual? I've never noticed it happen before with my old small bbq? Should I stop using?

3 Answers
  • A: That's normal. When liquid turns into a gas it cools the tank. Frost means you're using enough gas that the inside is cooling faster than the outside air can warm it. Normal with 1lb cylinders. That's why they sell tank heaters.

Q: Are these tanks adaptable to the portable (pocket-sized) camping stoves? Reason being the butane tanks that come with most camping stoves don’t operate at temps below zero. Thanks

2 Answers
  • A: No. Best thing to do is keep the iso-butane in your jacket up to the point of use. This will buy you the most time be before it cools down enough to lose pressure.

  • A: Find BTU of your burner. Divide 21900 by that number and thats how many hours you'll get per tank.
