Made for a larger diameter pole

This baffle works to prevent squirrels from getting up the feeder pole. However the hole on the plastic baffle is quite big for plant hanger poles, but that makes it easier to get past the shepherd hook. The plastic pc to support the baffle will not go over the shepherd hook, only on larger diameter poles that are straight and can be separated to slide on. You can use other ways to attach the baffle to a shepherd hook pole though. I used a small pc of pool noodle, cut and duct taped to the pole at a good height from the ground. I managed to get the baffle around 3 shepherd hooks and connect them together for 3 feeders.I like that it also comes with a hanger to use as a cover over a hanging feeder if you want that. Not sure how long the plastic will hold up long term.

We made a squirrel proof feeder for the heavier birds like blue jays and woodpeckers. Our regular squirrel proof feeder would close the ports when the heavier birds landed on it. It had to be set for the weight of a red squirrel which was about the same as the larger birds. We used a couple of dollar store trays, one vertical and one horizontal, and hung them underneath the shield. Totally blocked the squirrels. They tried jumping onto the shield but slid off every time, so eventually they gave up. Great product!

A: Thanks, PeterG - ingenious! This worked for me by twisting the plastic notches in a circular fashion with long nose pliers. I think the fact that the green hook comes installed is a packaging error, as it doesn't correspond to the instructions and stated possible usage. One shouldn't have to mangle the item to use as described!

Q: I think Canadian Tire needs to provide the answer to this issue for those who want to pole mount this baffle. The already inserted hook is not easy to remove when you are working within a plastic insert. Too much pressure and it will be break, etc.

A: I don’t think that’s the intended purpose of this device. My bird feeder pile came with a baffle. I put mine over one of the feeders and it works great to keep the seeds dry and the squirrels out of that feeder.
