Great pliers

Probably the best pliers you can buy. Picked up another set when on sale to put in our camping tool kit. They work great at cutting cable ties, wire, or other items. The blue grips help to ensure you don't slip. Definitely buy a pair.

Beware of Channellock for junk tools. No quality control.

Got the pliers home and found it had a factory defect. The tip didn't come to a point. It was like it wasn't put in the grinding machine. Went to exchange it, and they were all like that! Compared them to Mastercraft, and the Mastercraft were perfect. Even Channellock are making junk tools now. Sad.

Q: Do these make flush cuts on soft materials? The description indicates the jaw is designed for flush cutting. Most flush cut pliers I have seen are only for soft wire and plastic but reviews on these sound like a general purpose diagonal cutter. I am looking to cut nylon cable ties off flush.

  • A: I work with cable ties every day. Go through hundreds a month. There are several companies that make tools specifically for cutting cable ties. Prices range from $20 to $150. If you are only using a dozen ties a year a reasonable pair can be obtained for $50 or $60. An alternative is to purchase a pair of flush cut pliers. The side that cuts will be perfectly smooth. The cutters shown are not flush cut. Look at what you are using them for and determine if you really need the cable ties flush cut - most people do not, unless you are going to be working around the cut ones often - in which case they are sharp and will draw blood. Another cheap alternative is take a pair of vice grips and lock them on and twist until the tail comes off - it does not leave a sharp edge.
