This is a backup generator. It is small enough to keep in the garage without taking up too much space, but it has plenty of power when needed.

A: The prior answer is incorrect. The cord with CT part number 055-0358 is an L14 plug. This generator uses an L5 plug according to the picture.

A: The difference between the 15 amp outlet on your home and the one on the generator is that your home is backed by 100 amps from the grid and the generator has a peak amperage of 33.33 amps. So while the welder may run on a 15 amp outlet, it might take as much as 45 amps to get it started. This is called an inductive load and is true anytime electricity is used to turn start a motor.

Q: what do I have to do to run this generator half load...? I just purchased this generator - how do I get it to run half load or does it automatically go half load upon start up... About cold climate what does it mean?... Benp

A: The generator will always run at the same RPM regardless of load size. When the term 'half load' is used, it is referring to how much wattage you are consuming. Therefore, if you have a 3,000 watt generator, 'half load' would refer to a load size of 1,500 watts. A good example of a 1,500 watt load would be a portable space heater.
