224 cc Champion Wood Chipper / Shreader

I just purchased the Champion 224CC wood chipper/shredder. I was a bit concerned that I may have gone too small. However after using the chipper several times about 6hrs use. I am very impressed with its performance. The stiff rubber safety guard over the inlet shute was very restrictive. Once it was removed, I greatly increased the capacity of the branches that I could insert with ease. Also have Champion 9000 watt Standby Generator, 25 ton wood splitter & Champion rototiller . Very pleased with all the above.

It's a beast!

I acquired this chipper/shredder last week and am pretty impressed. I spent the last few days breaking it in, so to speak. Time for the first oil-change, as per the user manual *grin*. From coarse brush to thick branches to yard debris, it made short work of everything I fed into it. My only complaint (if you could call it that) would be that it's quite loud, but that's to be expected given it's function.
I guess I could've waited a few months / years to post a review, but I'm quite satisfied with my purchase atm. Build is solid, easy to assemble, documentation is proper. So far, so good. Go CPE!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Capacity - the safety guards had to be removed to make it truly useful otherwise it was a log tedious process.
Functionality - a lot of prep work trimming etc was required before starting.
Durability - after the first month it seems strong and well built but time will tell.
Performance - it really labours with 3" ash but handles anything up to 2 1/2" well.wer
Power - Strong but labours on anything over 2" (ASH)
The location of the discharge chute and the bag attachment seems to have been an after thought.
I would not buy it again. I would rent a large one instead.

A: There is really no difference between the 2 units, the smaller engine can do the same as the bigger one just go a bit slower with the big stuff

Q: What are the specs for replacement chipper blades?

A: If not getting OEM blades I'd go to their website. Or ask them. They (Champion) are fast at replying to email support. I had a welded bolt break on the hopper in the first 2 years and they had me a whole new hopper that arrived in the mail in 10 days. (Very fast for the remote North)

A: Not sure why this is a question. My feelings are the chipper works well. Chipper guard hampers discharge so I wired it up out of the way.

Q: I am thinking of purchasing this unit. I am wondering how easy a pull start it has.

A: The pull start is not like a regular pull start on a small gasoline engine. It’s connected directly to the heavy weighted flywheel that has the chipper blades attached to it, so it does take a little effort to pull it over. You need to have a steady hard pull and once the flywheel picks up momentum, it’s starts rather easily.
