I purchased those and I had to return them. The material itself seemed okay, but it didn't fit the tire properly, the elastic string to tighten it would not hold and there is no way you can lift the tire by the handle and not have the tire fall out of the cover. If they had designed it with a strong velcro instead of an elastic string, it might have been better.

The sizing is a little misleading. They barely stretch over a tire of their maximum diameter specified but they are too narrow for my tires fitted to my Volvo wagon

We bought these at a lower price range and got what we paid for in terms of thin and fragile fabric and questionable quality! I do not recommend this product for long-term use and will purchase others namely those made of better quality fabric and products Not made for our purpose but could possibly be fitting for short-term usage only - not for us! ..

Q: which would be a better fit for tire size 225/70R16 on original Hyundai Santa Fe alloy wheels - the large or small size ?

A: I would select the larger size. I have the smaller set for my wifes car and it's tight getting the cover over the tire. The tightening mechanism is not great, I think the maker could have used a better clamp system to hold the cord tight.
