Great for backyard rink

Great tarp for our backyard rink. I was skeptical about the quality after reading reviews but was pleasantly surprised at the thickness and durability once we brought it home. We have since filled the rink and have had no issues with leaking or seams that don’t look like they’ll hold.

size is not accurate

I bought this product twice for a backyard rink. Last year it worked great with no leaks. It was quite a bit bigger than needed for the 20x48 rink. I bought another one this year on sale for about half price and decided to make the rink slightly wider. Turns out the tarp is only 24' wide so must return it.

Good rink tarp

I picked this tarp on a Black Friday sale. We have used this brand in the past, and i am on year 8 with a backyard rink. First time rink builders, go to a Facebook group and learn. It won’t be the tarps fault if your rink leaks. Need a bit of slack in the deeper end.

Questions

Q: Will this tarp hold water? We would like to use it for a skating rink.

3 Answers
  • A: Yes, but it's not perfect. I've used this tarp for a 22x52 backyard rink for 4 winters now. We've used a layered approach to building the rink - adding 1/2 inch of water at a time until it freezes. The first tarp lasted 3 seasons. First year it seemed to work well, after that it leaked more and more each time water was added. Really not possible to use more than 3x. The second tarp only lasted one winter, and tore in the Spring while the rink was thawing...

Q: I need a 30x30 tarp, can I cut this in half and it still be ok?

2 Answers
  • A: Yes you can - I shorten mine by 10-15 feet each year and works perfect.

Q: What is the weave of this tarp

2 Answers
  • A: Weave is not watertight, it's loose in areas, so the tarp will leak slowly in multiple places.

Q: You might want to check the specifications listed for material weight in gsm and oz/ft2 as I think the oz/ft2 value is incorrect or the wrong units are listed. It maybe should be oz/yrd2.

  • A: Hi, This item is 93gsm/m2

Q: What is the actual exact size of this tarp ?

1 Answer
  • A: This tarp is classified as a 30’ x 60’ tarpaulin. However, this measurement states the Cut Size of the tarp and is not representative of the finished, usable size – a practice that is not exclusive to Canadian Tire but common with many tarp manufacturers and retailers. Due to the manufacturing process, we are not able to provide a specific measurement to the finished size of the tarp but to help with your project, we do know that a finished tarp will typically lose up to 6% of its Cut Size material and you should plan accordingly.
