Perfect for Harley Trailer

Understanding that a 1500 lbs dual line winch will only handle 750 lbs single line is an important note. I wanted to have something to load my bike, in the event of not having engine power of it's own. Looping the cable back to the winch mount, and using the block is plenty to load a harley. For the rare time, if at all that I'll use this, it's perfect. I can see using it to assist it loading a fridge or stove, or something of that nature too.

Yes, I recommend this product.

A Little Confusion

I purchased one of these to pull my race car onto a 4 post lift. There is a 30 inch ramp at the end that is about 5 inces high. THe car weighs 2,700 without the engine. I used the block and rigged it double to reduce stress on the winch and cable. It pulled it up without too much trouble. It is pretty noisy and sounded like it was working when the tires were on the ramps. The confusion comes when I look at the positioning of the decal and the spool shield. If the winch was turning in the direction the decal indicates when drawing the cable in it would have to be coming in over the sheild or overwinding, a definite no no according to the manual. I become more confused when I see that the switches are moving the cable in the correct direction according to the diagrams on the buttons. Teh winch is also shown with the motor on the left and the right in the manual. At this point I will believe that the decal was installed incorrectly as the rest of the unit seems properly oriented. If anyone at Canadian Tire reads these maybe they could check with their supplier and send them this photo which illustrates the problem.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Over-rated but still useful

Taking a clue from the description on the box (Dual Line Winch), I ran the line through the pulley provided plus one from the shop. With this set-up, the winch did better than the price might indicate. By itself, it cannot pull 1500 lbs. With pulleys, my 960 lb. Kubota up a 30 degree slope was easy. If you need to pull 1500 lb., this is not the winch you want. Spend the extra money & go for 3,000 lb. minimum. For a once-in-a-while, light duty winch, this winch is perfect. Always buy more capacity than you think you need. You'll be happier & safer.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Worst purchase at Canadian Tire yet.

This winch is by far the lowest quality winch I have ever seen. I would say the winch should be rated for 150lb, not 1500lb. It does not have enough power to lift the 80lb plow on my ATV, which I can easily lift with one hand.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Q: Could I use this for a winch on the front of my ATV to hold up a snowthrower when traveling, Will it hold it up?

1 Answer
  • A: This winch does not have a mechanical brake sufficient enough to do this. The weight on a snowthrower can be fairly substantial especially while in movement during travel. It is not recommended that these winches are used for this application. Thank you for your question and for shopping at Canadian Tire.
