Maximum storage in a small footprint

I bought 2 of these units several years ago because I wanted to maximize storage in a small bedroom. At 20” wide, you get a lot of variable storage- bookcase/display, bedside table and 3 drawers that hold more than you would think.
I just purchased 2 more on behalf of a friend who is moving to a very small apartment - these make the best use of a small room. And they look great in a minimalist/Scandi sort of way.
I only gave 5 stars as I feel the legs/support feel a bit flimsy- definitely lift these to move, don’t slide them! Also the metal circles that drop into holes and tighten around the screws are easy to break if you overtighten. Thankfully, they do provide a bag of spare parts.
For the price of these, we feel we get a lot of mileage out of them.

Don't buy it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Terrible quality. Canadian Tire should not be selling this product. Very unsteady. The instructions are awful.

Every thing was received piece meal. I hired someone to put it together then I saw it was damaged in several areas.
The service and condition has been horrible.

A: You build it yourself so you probably could just leave off the legs. I don’t know the height is affected but you could make a guess the legs look to be about 5 or 6 inches

Q: Would the shelving unit still be stable if I leave the back off and have the shelves with an open back? Is the back one piece of hardboard/plywood?

A: Dear Jennifer, The back panel is made of 2.7mm MDF board (similar to hardboard). We would suggest to keep the back panel which will make the unit more stable. Otherwise it may be a little shaky.

Q: If the bottom of the middle drawer is left off, and somehow joined on the inside to the bottom drawer, would the height of the bottom two drawers together be large enough to hold files?
