Shatter with heat

I bought the purple (aka blue) ones. They look fantastic but as others have stated, they do sometimes shatter with the heat of the fire. I only use the lowest propane setting, never crank it to the max, but stones are continuing to split occasionally. Admittedly I'm a bit nervous that one will launch itself out of the fireplace when it shatters.

It does what it's supposed to do. But it wasn't enough beads for my Canvas fire table w hich came without beads (it was supposed to). It would require 2 of these boxes of beads. Price is a bit high for one box.

Q: Do you have to use lava rocks under the fire glass on a propane fire table if you have several layers of fire glass? Why are the lava rocks necessary?

A: Lava rocks not necessary. Too much clogs up the gas lines. Make sure to not cover gas holes completely w the glass rocks. Enjoy

A: I don't see why you can't use it in an indoor fireplace, it's just glass.
