    Valve Issue Causing Propane Leak

My husband and I were so excited to use this stove on our camping trip! We connected the propane tank to the stove and cooked a delicious breakfast. When we tried to unscrew the propane tank, the pin that is attached to the stove (which opens the gas valve on the tank) unscrewed with the propane tank causing propane to leak everywhere! Because the leaking gas froze the valve on the tank where the pin had attached to it, it was impossible for us to unscrew the pin from the valve without hurting ourselves. We were forced to leave our campsite while we let the rest of the propane leak out of the tank... Only after the propane gas ran out were we able to handle the tank again to unscrew the pin from the valve. We removed the pin and re-attached it to the stove (screwing it in tight enough that it shouldn't detach itself from the stove again and attach itself to the propane tank). We made a second attempt to use the stove with a new propane tank, but the same thing happened. It was incredibly frustrating! In summary: Great stove concept, but the design is poor. Be prepared for leaking gas and issues detaching your propane tank after use.

No, I do not recommend this product.

    Great little cooker!

Bought this for the summer camping season and its been great! Cooked bacon, eggs, burgers, kabobs, boiled water and warmed up precooked food on it. Love the versatility! It can be a bit tough to scrub clean but overall it's great value if you catch it on sale.

    Yes, I recommend this product.

    quality control?

Was excited to try this, seemed like a great portable way to meet many needs in one unit. The first one I bought didn't allow any gas through so it couldn't be lit. Returned it. Second one sprayed gas all over the place when screwing in the canister. Returned it. This would work best with the hose adapter that can connect it to a larger tank, but negates its usefulness as a multi-functioning portable unit. 2 stars for the idea, 0 for the execution.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Bad first impression, but so far so good!

Same as the review below, my first unit did not work. First had a gas leak, so I tightened the loose piece. Next, the regulator would not let any gas through it. Exchanged it for a new one. The new unit was properly assembled and everything was tight. The propane bottle even fit much easier than before (no gas leaking out). Fired it up and got a strong flame! Cooked an egg so far, and it worked nicely. This weekend's camping trip will be the true test. TIP: The gas regulator knob doesn't have any indicators. I drew a line so that I know how much I've turned it. The lines/gauge on the unit isn't a true representation of the settings. You either have the gas full wide open, or can carefully adjust it on the low-end before closing it completely. Just a small learning curve.

    Yes, I recommend this product.

Great addition to our cooking fleet

We purchased this jack-of-all trades a few years ago before our two week camping trip. It runs off of propane and comes with a lid/wok, reversible grill plate, wire grid, top and bottom deflector plates and stove stand. To top it off it comes in a very handy carrying case. It provides an even cooking temperature when levelled out on a picnic table. My husband loves to make his eggs on it in the morning. You are getting a lot of bang for your buck with this stove as it is multifunctional and easy to clean. It stores neatly in a carry case.

    Yes, I recommend this product.

Q: How do you regulate the temperature? The flame knob spins four or five revolutions before stopping and the flame doesn't appear to change much. I'm not sure if the one I bought is correct or not.

    1 Answer
    • A: It sounds like the knob fitting is broken. Kindly phone customer service # 1 (866) 807-6937 or email service@hus-tek.com for assistance with getting a replacement part.

    1 Answer
    • A: NO – the Safari Chef needs to be connected directly to a small 1LB Propane cartridge or to a larger cylinder without a regulator. High pressure and low pressure stoves use two different burners and jets.
