Q: What is this? Exactly what does this do? It would be great if there were some explanation!

A: The battery temperature sensor monitors the temperature of your vehicle’s battery and feeds that information back to your engine management system. This allows your onboard computer to regulate charging of the battery by the alternator, and can also tell the computer if there is a problem, and trigger the check engine light.
