Defective product and designed flaw

Purchased this product 2 years ago and started leaking. I bought another one and leaked considerably worse. Took it back off and noticed it had lots of cracks in. I took the old one apart and added a bead of silicone between the two pieces and now the old one is fine again. Defective product (new one), and in my opinion, design flaw (old one needing a bead of silicone to seal properly).

I bought it a few weeks ago and it started leaking; Found that the bottom base is not thick enough, has mini cracks on outside.

Does what it's supposed to do, however, I don't think it should be 2 in 1. No matter how big the pipe, it goes through 1 1/4" bottle neck.
