Caught fire

Had it for 4-5 years. Worked ok till today. The sale description said that it last 8 hours before replacing the wood picks. Only lasted for 4 hours. Water went dry in bowel. Was smoking and 7 hours later the thing was on fire. All plastic melted. Door just fell off as it has plastic hinges. Wasted food. Not safe. Only good for really short smoking. Don’t trust the 8 hours description.

No, I do not recommend this product.

After 10 years of use

Here’s a review after 10 years of use. It’s a pain in the butt. I’ve had to tear it apart twice to fix element wiring. Wires corrode with the heat over time. I’ve replaced element twice. It requires constant heat adjustments. No idea what the heat dial temp is. Now the food can’t even get to 200f. I have to finish it off in the oven. The temp gauge is in accurate. The wood pucks are expensive. On long smokes water requires change which loses heat and smoke by opening door. Takes very long to get to temp. Have to rotate food on racks because lower rack will incinerate your food. Just don’t use the lower rack. All in all I’m done with this thing. It’s too inconsistent and requires constant attention. The 2 stars are for the very nice smoke flavour it provides. It’s pretty much perfect in that regard.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Q: cold smoke--wood chips Hello, I am interested in cold smoke. will this really work? Can you put a heating source further from the smoker to get the smoke colder? can you use wood chips rather than pucks? As they are cheaper. thanks joe

  • A: There is a "cold smoke attachment" available that moves the smoke generation away from the main smoking chamber. A flexible hose carries the smoke into the Bradley smoker with minimal heat. The smoke generator does heat the box if you aren't using this cold smoke attachment. However, for many foods it isn't necessary but for delicate items like butter and even some cheese the heat could affect the product. Smoked butter is amazing! Cut it in cubes and freeze it to be used in recipes to add a hint of smoke to all kinds of food.

Q: Can all the components of the original smoker be left outside. More worried about rain, it will be stored inside during the winter months.

  • A: Sorry I can't help. We have a shelter that we use as a "smoke house" so the smoker has never been outside. BUT, we sure have enjoyed the smoker itself.!!!!!

Q: Where can I obtain a recipe book for my Bradley smoker

2 Answers
  • A: Hey, Herb. Hopefully you've found a recipe book by now. If not, there are literally hundreds of books out there for smokers in general. They are almost all appropriate for a Bradley smoker. The most important details are time and temperature. Wood type has a certain impact on some recipes, as well. Get Googling, and don't be afraid to mess around/ experiment!
