Questions
Q: I have been hearing that this should be used with mat not on its own. I fixing only part of my boat floor and wanted use this join the two boards together after screwing them down. Can anyone comment?
a year agoA: Yes that with the clear resin is the choice you want. Coat the area with resin then lay the cloth on the resin and work in some more resin with a cheap paint brush that will be thrown out after.

Q: What is the weight per yard for this cloth? I see an answer saying 7 oz but I'm not sure if that's the weight per yard? I'm looking to repair my canoe. It's just clear epoxy. I want a similar weight. Thanks Dave
a year agoA: I think it is weight per square yard if in ounces. I've repaired several canoes. I cut patches of increasing size to follow the crack/hole contour so I end up with a large overlap to grip the strong area around the hole/crack. Then subsequently smaller patches centred on the crack/hole. First start by cleaning up the crack with a jigsaw and belt sander/grinder. Feather out the crack and clean up the inside of the canoe to allow a good bond with the new glass patch. Wipe down the inside and outside with a strong cleaner to get rid of dirt and wax. Next use packing tape on the outside of the canoe to create a smooth outside surface. No glass will be put on the outside - Set the canoe so the crack is at the bottom to minimize running of the epoxy. Wet the area with epoxy and apply the largest patch first. Get rid of air bubbles with a roller. At the he next patch and maybe some more epoxy to saturate the cloth. Keep adding layers until you've built up the repair to the thickness you want. I'm thinking 3 layers for a small hole and more for a large hole. Let the epoxy cure. Finish sand the outside and paint to match. Rough sand the inside and paint to match. Epoxy is UV sensitive so do paint. I cheap out and use Rustoleum or Tremclad.

Q: is this product good for using on wooden boats to cover the hull?
9 years agoA: It would depend on what you are trying to achieve. Using this cloth in conjunction with Bondo Fiberglass Resin and hardener will provide a durable, water-resistant layer on the hull of a wooden boat. Many boats are made out of fibreglass laid up under a layer of gelcoat, aided by a foam or balsa core of some sort for added strength. However, you will have to test for suitability for your application. The wood should be prepped properly and completely dry. Lay-up will have to be air-free to avoid bubbles using proper technique. You should know what thickness you are looking to achieve. Best results usually require an outer coating (if this is being added to the outside of your hull) to enhance waterproof properties. Also realize that this will add weight to your boat.
