Q: An alternative Black and Decker model? I'm on my second Deluxe Breadmaker and am not happy with this one either. Does anyone recommend a Black and Decker breadmaker at all, or should I just look for another brand on sale?

  • A: I bought a Breadman last month in the U.S. This unit is brand new to the market. Has great new features like collapsable paddles so you don't have to worry about pulling the paddle out of the loaf. Another great thing about this machine is it has a dispenser for nuts and fruits. When I'm making specialty bread it will automatically add the additional ingredients at the right time. I called the company for some additional information and they told me the unit was launching in Canada this Fall at Canadian Tire. Cost more than the B&D but well worth it.

Q: Can you remove the paddles to avoid the holes? In rid you ruin the dough is you pull the paddles after the third rise.

  • A: I'm not sure what the second sentence of the question means; however, I interpret the question as meaning "Can I remove the paddles from the basket after the dough has finished mixing but before the cooking starts because I want to avoid the two holes at the bottom when I remove the paddles from the cooked bread?" The answer is that you can but you might make matters worse. The two prongs that turn the paddles are not Teflon-coated and are extremely hot, and the bread bakes solidly onto them. When you turn the basket over to remove it from the basket after cooking will get an even larger gash at the bottom. (I learned the same lesson 'cuz I thought it was a good idea as well).

Q: why do the paddles stick into the bread when removing it from the pan and is there a solution?

  • A: Thank you for your interest in this Black + Decker bread maker. The mixing paddle may stay in the loaf when the bread is removed from the bread pan. This happens because the crust forms around the paddle during the baking process. Allow the loaf to cool before removing the mixing paddle (the inside of the loaf is VERY HOT you may burn yourself if you try to remove the paddle too soon.) When the loaf has cooled, use a plastic spoon or rubber spatula to remove the paddle. Gently insert the spoon/spatula into the bottom of the loaf and loosen the crust from the paddle. Pull the paddle out. DO NOT use a sharp object (knife, metal utensil) as it will scratch the non-stick coating on the mixing paddle. If you need further assistance, I’d be happy to help! Q: Does the Black & Decker Breadmaker 043-0825-6 have a delayed start that you don't have to set to be ready in 10 hours, as compared to be ready at 7:00am? I want to set a done time (i.e. 7am) not have to figure out at 7:45pm how many hours/minutes delay.

  • A: Thank you for your question regarding the Black+Decker Bread Maker. Unfortunately, we do not have a bread maker that has a feature where you can set the bread to be done a specific time. It only has the delayed start where it will start later. If you need further assistance, please contact me at youropinionmatters@spectrumbrands.com and reference ID number 42176890] so that I may be able to better assist you.
