Bought this unit in the fall of 2015 and I have been using it to maintain/charge one of our vehicles over the winter ever since. Highly recommend it.

Q: What does the flashing green / red alternate lights mean? This is not mentioned in the instructions,. Overall seems like a very poor quality device.
2 Answers
A: As per the printed safety instructions: 1. Flashing red means improper connection or battery voltage too low (ie. it’s toast) 2. Red means connected properly and charging 3. Flashing green means battery is 80+% 4. Solid green means battery 100-103% and in float mode

Q: What is the power usage for this charger(kw/hr)? I want to get a sense of the $ amount electricity used to keep battery of a not-in-use car fresh.
2 Answers
A: These are my figures on the power usage of the charger:
1.25 Amps * 13.5 Volts = 17 Watts or 0.17 kW
Assuming an over-estimated conversion AC to DC loss of 100%.
34 Watts @ 120 Volts
Used for 1 hour would be 0.34 kW/Hr

Q: will this unit Battery Tender Plus charge both 12V car batteries as well as a single deep cycle 6V RV battery? need something that can do both.
2 Answers
A: This one is for 12v systems, but can work for your RV. Your 6v RV batteries are most likely in series. Meaning 2 batteries wired together to create a 12v battery. If you use the positive and negative wires that leave the battery box, it's most likely the 12v pair of wires you want to connect to. (You can use a voltage tester to make sure.)

Q: When charging a battery in car when away on holidays, does the hood of the vehicle need to be left open or closed?
2 Answers
A: If you can use the eyelet connectors or lay the clamps flat, then yes. I use the eyelets so my hood is closed.

Q: how long can yo leave this bttery maintainer on a vehicle
10 years ago
2 Answers
A: The Battery Tender Plus can be left on a battery indefinitely. After the battery is recharged the Battery Tender will automatically switch to a storage mode. However, we do recommend checking on the battery and Battery Tender every 50 or so days.

Q: when it describes the type on this one as wall plug in and on another charger as compact, what is the difference?
2 Answers
A: This is a larger unit therefore you plug it in the wall. The junior tender is like a wall pack the hole unit is plug on the wall.

Q: will the battery tender plus work on an AGM battery like the OPTIMA YELLOWTOP?
1 Answer
A: Yes, the Battery Tender Plus is suitable for an AGM battery like the OPTIMA YellowTop. However, at 1.25A, it is best-suited for maintaining this battery. For charging, we would recommend you consider a battery charger in the 3A to 10A range.

Q: What's the diffeence between this unit and the Batterty Tender Junior?
1 Answer
A: Both of these products would be appropriate for charging small batteries (e.g. motorcycle) or maintaining small or large (e.g. car/truck) batteries. The fundamental difference is the power output. The Junior output is 0.75A while the Plus output is 1.25A. Newer vehicles tend to have a lot of key-off draws (e.g. security, proximity sensors, etc.) and the Junior's output may not be enough to keep up with both the natural self-discharge of a lead-acid battery AND these constant parasitic draws. If your vehicle is a luxury vehicle or has a lot of electronics/technology, I would definitely suggest going with the more powerful Plus model. Of course, if your battery is disconnected from any loads, the Junior would definitely be adequate to keep it maintained.

Q: Can the battery tender keep two 12 volts batteries charged that are hooked up together?
1 Answer
A: Assuming the batteries are connected in parallel (for 12V) and not in series (for 24V) and that there is not load connected to the batteries, yes this charger can maintain them. This charger would not be recommended for charging them however (ie. from a discharged state). For charging, we would recommend a charger with higher current.
