Worst a/f paint I've ever used.

Having researched on the net and spoken to a company rep, I was convinced that Aquagard was a good multi-season paint equal to what I had been using (3-4 seasons). Application was by the book, but one and a half seasons in my boat under sail or motor could barely achieve 3 kn due to the growth on the hull. It's back to my original paint (Pettit) after this expensive mistake.

No, I do not recommend this product.

    Great Product!

I have used this product for 3 years. I was so glad to find a safe-to-use bottom coating for my sailboat. The product is quite durable, considering that it is designed to wear off over time. Application by brush and roller work equally well. The best news: because it is ablative, I will never have to sand my boat hull again! I recommend doing the first coat in a contrasting colour. Then apply the second coat in the colour you want. This way, you can tell whether or not it needs repainting. If the contrasting colour is not showing, you are good to go for another season.

    Yes, I recommend this product.

Q: I have a fiberglass canoe & want to resurface the outside hull. How do i need to prepare it and ehtn paint it?Do i need to resurface the gel coat?

    • A: Aquagard Bottom Paint (79-0082) is an anti-fouling. It is designed to prevent fouling like slime, zebra mussels and barnacles from accumulating on the hull. It is to be applied specifically to surfaces that will be underwater or below the waterline. The paint you need is a topside paint like our Aqua-Gloss High-Gloss Enamel or a polyurethane based topside. Preparation for a topside is easy. As long as the existing surface is in good condition free of any flakes and debris a light sanding is all that is required.
