worse purchase

My friend had one of these and I found it excellent after using it to replace some plumbing.I then purchased my own and every crimp that I made with it just sprayed out .I noticed that the crimp jaws were not aligned.I returned it for another but have not had the time to try it.

I bought this a few years ago and recently used it. I was never confident in the crimps from the start. The tool was maligned and rings were crimped in a slightly oval way so the gauge would fit one way and not 90 degrees around. It chipped some of the copper at the top so hard to know if it would leak. Then the centre bolt broke after about 50 crimps. I would recommend buying an expensive crimping tool like Rigid $200 - you have to be confident doing plumbing. What do you expect from a company that uses apostrophes?

Ive seen this tool priced much higher at other retailers. My Canadian tire store had a promotion running where I decided to give it a try....glad I did. Will be the last PEX tool I own.

Q: Can I use any Pex rings with this crimper? In the specifications, it says "For use with Apollo PEX Crimp Rings". Does this mean I have to use Apollo brand only, or can I use any brand of PEX rings?

A: Yes, but like the other anonymous person stated you have to use the correct fittings with the correct pipe. Pex is the newer format so you need the correct adapter and rings is you are tying into the old with the new format.
