Dashboard Error Message - no support

I had checked & confirmed with Sylvania and Canadian Tire for compatibility with my car before buying. After installing the DRL error dashboard symbol appeared when lights set to park. I wrote to Sylvania support & they replied, "we are unable to comment outside of the recommendations found when using the online Bulb Finder on our website at the following link. Please be advised that current United States federal automotive law prohibits replacing halogen lamps with LEDs for low and high beam headlight applications and we are unable to advise through this email address regarding such replacements. Please contact a local service center for assistance troubleshooting this issue." Further research found that to be legal the whole headlight housing must be replaced with an LED compliant one. The old halogen housing reflect the LED light so it scatters (dazzles on coming traffic) and also is actually less effective for lighting further away. The reason why the DRL error shows is because of voltage mismatch. When click the switch to the first position (Park Lights), the car typically keeps the DRLs active while adding the small amber corner lights. Since the LEDs can't handle the DRL voltage (6V), they stay dark, and the dashboard error remains. When you go to full headlights (second click), the system sends a full 12V, the LED turns on and the warning light disappears.

finicky install but they Will fit.

Used look up tablet at CT to get right bulb. Heat sink on rear of bulb made it very difficult to install in the 2012 Tucson I bought them for. No room for couplers etc. because there is a screw on cap to access the bulbs from the engine compartment. 45 minutes of "working " with them I discovered I could plug the bulb in then tuck the wire harness down into the cavity BEOFRE installing the bulb into position. Also, hold down spring needs to be behind bulb not heat sink. They shone bright in my garage but I have yet to drive with them at night.

A: Anytime you upgrade to LED bulbs you MUST adjust the beam pattern to optimize reflection. Usually this means to tilt them slightly down towards the roadway

Q: Are these DOT approved for street vehicle use as replacements for halogen bulbs in Ontario?

A: No. Headlamps are compliant with applicable standards only when replacement bulbs are the same type as originally equipped - unless the lamp assembly has been tested to be compliant with multiple bulb types. If so, it will state the applicable bulb types in your owner's manual. To the best of my knowledge no manufacturer has headlamps compliant with multiple bulb types. As such, headlamps designed for and originally equipped halogen bulbs would be non-compliant if equipped with LED bulbs - therefore not legal for street use in Ontario or any other jurisdiction in Canada or the USA where DOT standards apply.

Q: I installed these into a 2008 Honda Ridgeline. Light output was much better for low beam than the same brand Ultra bulbs that I replaced. The DRL doesn't seem to work on this vehicle when using these bulbs. How can I fix this?

A: Are the lights on at all? I have them in an 06 vibe. The DRL are my headlights and they flicker(and are less bright) until I manually turn on the headlights. I have heard this is because the DRL draws much less current and not enough to turn the lights on fully.

A: I don’t know that I’ve actually seen the output in lumens, and I know that’s what you’re looking for, but I will say that these lights are VERY BRIGHT. There’s a remarkable difference between these and the OEM type. Sorry I can’t be more specific.

A: Hello, I show that the 9003 is the bulb type for the Low/High Beam for the 2008 Hyundai Tucson. I do not show a listing for the Daytime Running Lights and suggest referring to the Owner's Manual or calling a Hyundai Dealership for further detail on that application.

Q: Installed these on a 2010 Kia Rio5. The daytime running lights come on as high beam. The night time low beam / high beam function correctly. What is wrong with the DRL?

A: Hello, Thank you for your inquiry. Vehicles usually pulse the high-beam to dim it down, creating the DRL function. Because of the slow-reaction of a halogen filament bulb to the pulse, it appears much dimmer than an LED that is instant-on. Thus the DRL function with LEDs appear brighter than with the halogen bulbs.
