Terrible customer service

Let me start by saying that the folks at Canadian Tire have been very helpful and as frustrated as I am.
The splitter started leaking fluid at the control valve from the first minute I started it. I found 2 screws that were loose and tightened them. The leak didn't stop. CT had to go through Swisher the manufactor to rectify the problem. Swisher was not responsive for about 3 months then finally asked for pictures of the leak and insinuated that I might be at fault.
I decided to take the valve apart since I could not bring the splitter back to CT because I live on an island.
Guess what? No gasket. Swisher refused to send me a new gasket so I made one from a kit and now that the leak is fixed, I have to admit that this is a real good splitter. Just a cruddy customer service.
No, I do not recommend this product.

A plus Purchase

I bought this splitter for hard and knotty wood which it pushes through with ease.It is heavy built and very strong.Briggs&Stratton engines starts and runs great,fast cycling and I can split about 1/3 of a cord of wood on a tank of gas(Fuel tank capacity just over a litre).I am very happy with this splitter but feel it should get a point taken away for the poor position of the engine or lack of protection for the spark plug sitting right under the splitting area leaving it prone to being struck with falling wood ,promting me to construct and install a log cradle to help hold larger pieces of wood and protect the spark plug and engine.
Overall highly recommended.For the price,and I have check around,this is the best working and strongest splitter I have found!

j ai achete plusieure fendeusse a bois de 20 tonnes elles ont tous brise apres 1 ans et beaucoup plus chers quelle ca va faire pres de 2 ans aucun probleme elle a fait pres de 300 cordes de bois elle fonctionne comme une neuf tres bonne achat .

Excellent quality, heavy duty splitter

This splitter will carve knots and split any size hardwood without any hesitation.
If your wood supply was as knotty and twisted as mine you need this machine.
No lifting for big blocks.
I recommend this splitter for the toughest hardwood out there!

A: Since it is not really a seasonnal item and CTC, does not sell many, they do not have overstock of these and the profit on them is not that good, so no they are unlikely to become on sale, mostly because CTC stores do not have many if any even!

Q: Is the vertical splitter better than a horizontal one? I am surprised there are no comments about this question. As it seems that when handling large blocks, lifting blocks can be very hard on the back. I would think that rolling, then standing vertical would be great feature. Comments please. KN

A: Thank you for your interest in Swisher. All of Swisher's current log splitters worth both horizontally and vertically. You do not have to choose between one or the other.

Q: Does the splitter come fully assembled?... There seems to be no mention of assembly required, or additional fees for assembly so I am assuming it will be assembled when I pick it up and the stated price is the final price ?

A: It returns automatically and it takes 22 seconds to cycle a full stroke. 40.5" horizontal 69.75" vertical are the dimensions

Q: How many of the 22 ton log splitters (item No. 60-3817-6) has Canadian Tire sold, and has any been returned due to any problems? Was there any problems with this 22 ton log splitter?

A: We bought this log splitter and the oil pump was leaking and the pressure line underneath the splitter was cut at both ends and leaking as well. We had it repaired through Canadian Tire and it seems okay now, but it's better to check things out before buying.
