The Busted Knuckle Story of My Experience

I purchased this pump in good faith from Canadian Tire, removed my old pump and jnstalled this rebuilt pump, it wotked great for roughly 3 or 4 days and thats when I noticed that it started whining, so thinking that more air couldve still been in the system, I topped it up and bled it once again but very few air bubbles surfaced, I also noticed that it was wet where tge shaft entered the pump. I thought maybe I spilled a bit, sprayed with brake cleaner and drive roughly 160 kms, checked and it was wet again, more wet. Topped it up and on tge way home had to stop 3 times to fill it and it was whining and at this point, spraying fluid from tge seal. I drove 25 kms from my last stop to home and it was completely empty, got home and put my old one back on and returned this one to the store. When they remanufactured this pump, they mustve overlooked to bearing and seal because this was worse than my original one. So then I had ro remove my old one AGAIN to install my new, new one and if anybody knows about these things, they are not fun to get that pulley off before the pump can even be removed but I had to do it three times. Thats three times pulling the pulley off and pressing it back on whike trying not to crack the Bakelite pulley and scraping knuckles because there is not alot of room to work and Ive been a mechanic for 35 years but this wasba chore for me, thankfully it was my own vehicle and not a customer's.

Q: install time and cost for installing

    1 Answer
    • A: Doing it yourself, 1 hour. It’s a few bolts, two hoses, and the belt. YouTube has all the video you would need if you need a hand.  Comes with everything you need. Buy some extra fluid to top up.

Q: Hi I was looking to purchase this for my 1996 Chevrolet astro van. Does the pump come with the reservoir on the back or is it just the internals of the pump? Thanks

    • A: The pump is available both with and without the reservoir. Note – it is recommended that a complete system flush and fluid replacement is also completed when replacing the pump. With Reservoir: (2 options) 022-9492; Cardone part # 20-7923 ….. OE Replacement 022-2734; Cardone part # 20-7923F … for use with aftermarket filter Without Reservoir: 122-4061; Cardone part # 20-860
