It’s a good idea to change the locks on your doors when you move into a new home, or if you simply want a new look. You can easily replace door locks yourself with tools you may already have.
Take measurements of your door's backset by measuring from the latch of your door to the centre of the door knob.
STEP 2
Remove the old lock.
The screws may have tightened over time. Remember: Righty tighty, lefty loosey.
STEP 3
Take the new door lock and hardware out of it's packaging.
Keep the manual handy.
STEP 4
Install the latch.
Many door lock and hardware kits come with different latches. Make sure to pick the one that fits your door.
STEP 5
Install the chassis and knobs.
This step can be tricky. Here's how it's done.
STEP 6
Install the strike plates.
Some door hardware kits include a few strike plates. Make sure to pick the one that fits the door.
STEP 7
Close the door and test the locking mechanism.
..and you're done.
